indeterminate

If the universe were fixed and finite
the night sky would glow as the day
filled with the light of all the stars
living and dead
from the beginning of time
to the present

which is not so defined
and definite
as you would think

the eternal now
sliding
like a bead on a string
now here
now there.
where and when
being indeterminate except in relation
to all that surrounds them
points in time
points in space

so we say "when did that happen?"
and assume there is an answer
to that question
but when and where
here and there
are not so
considerate
of our desires.

so we try to pin things down
lock them in place
fix them
solidify
but the closer we look
the fuzzier it gets

until we cannot say anything definite
about what we think we know
